Ok, I’m sure I’ve said this before but if prisoners or convicts looked like this then the penitentiaries would be even fuller than they already are. This is not really a convict or prisoner costume. It is more about a sexy costume that has a few prison related touches that provide material for banter and chit chat at a party. It gives you a license to flirt and by flirted with based on being a con without having the seedy or grubby connotations generally involved with serving time. So what do you get with the Jailhouse Hottie Costume ?

The costume is basically a mini dress and jacket with a handcuff styled necklace. It is quite sheer and hugs your body making sure that you make a great first impression at the party.

The mini dress has a black low cut bottom skirt with printed belt and pockets. The top half of the dress is in the typical black and white horizontal strips that you expect of old style convict outfits. On the front going down the dress are the words “Jailhouse Hottie” (just in case people had no imagination whatsoever).

So if you are going in the tattooed convict costume you are one hard boiled character. The costume consists of a state penitentiary prison uniform with cut away sleeves. I’m not sure if they have cut away sleeves in the real state pen outfits but this is just a costume so we are allowed to be a bit creative.

The cut away sleeves allow you to display your guns with those hard earned tats all over them. Maybe there is a tat of your first love. Maybe one dedicated to your dear old ma and then things get progressively darker.

Maybe there one that indicated that you are a member of an organized crime syndicate – a bit like the Japanese Yakuza have tattoos to show their allegiance and rank in their crime organization. Maybe you have a tat to show that you have done time before. Maybe one to indicate the type of crimes you have done in the past. The tale of your life a crime and punishment is etched on your arms for all to see and it makes for a menacing vision.

All these things can be on your tats but of course since this is only a costume, the tattoos are part of the costume. When the stat pen overall sleeves end there is a skin tone, mesh fabric that covers your arms. This has the various tattoos on it. The mesh fabric form two sleeves around the arms that end at the wrists.

The sleeves should be are quite tight against the skin so that they look like your arms. From a distance they will look quite convincing. As people get closer they will get the costume and probably complement you on a unique look.

Along with the state pen top and tattoo sleeves, you also get matching blue colored pants. The overall affect is that of a menacing convict that maybe be skulking around the exercise yard intent on plans of escape. Or maybe he has already escaped and is determined to wreak havoc on the people that put him behind bars. Or maybe he is hatching another bank robbery with some of his ex-con buddies.

Here’s another prisoner costume fit for a costume party around the Halloween period. It’s called Ally Catraz after the time that Ally McBeal was locked up for 6 months at the Federal Correctional Institution Danbury in Connecticut. Although she claimed she was innocent of all charges, it was proved in Judge Judy’s courthouse that she did willfully eat a bagel with crème cheese and anchovies which is a crime against the palate. Oh, the costume might have a passing reference to the infamous prison located on Alcatraz island in the San Francisco Bay too…just maybe.

The Ally Catraz costume is basically a sexy costume that has a prison theme. Unlike many other costumes of this ilk, this costume uses the orange jumpsuit style convict costume for it’s inspiration. It would make a perfect partner costume for the orange jumpsuit male costume or even the psycho killer costume. This might be too much of the same though, so you could also think about pairing it with a cop costume or even a prison warder outfit.

What could be simpler than an orange jumpsuit at your next Halloween party. Sure you probably won’t get best costume prize but then you won’t have to suffocate yourself or come out in a rash wearing a zombie mask all night.

The orange jumpsuit is easy to wear and extremely comfortable (OJ Simpson can attest to that but as yet I am still waiting for his testimonial). A more tongue in cheek costume might have busted or guilty or some such phrase across the back to give people a clearer idea of where you are coming from.

You can add to the costume by getting the arm restraints or ball an chain. The ball and chain attaches around one leg but it’s a little old fashioned these days. I’d say the arm restraints give your costume a more contemporary look.

The ultimate accessory for your orange prison costume is the face mask. This was made popular or notorious by Hannibal Lecter in the 1991 movie The Silence Of The Lambs (and many spoofs of the movie there after). This would give you a menacing demeanor and be quite scary when you first arrive at a fancy dress party.
